SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 52
(By Senators Edgell, Kessler, Bailey, Bowman, McKenzie, Helmick,
Unger, Anderson, Sharpe, Ross, Caldwell and Redd)
Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge No. 52-7 over Route
2 in New Martinsville the "Richard 'Dick' Snyder Memorial
Bridge".

Whereas, Richard Snyder served his nation with pride and
distinction during World War II in the United States Coast Guard;
and

Whereas, Richard Snyder worked for Mobay Chemical Company,
from which he was retired; and

Whereas, Richard Snyder was first elected to public office in
1976 to the City Council of New Martinsville from the 6th Ward, a
position he held until 1993; and

Whereas, In 1993, Richard Snyder was elected Mayor of New
Martinsville and served until his death on January 6, 2001; and

Whereas, During his life, Richard Snyder served the residents
of his community as a member of myriad boards and commissions; and

Whereas, It is fitting that a bridge be dedicated to a man who
contributed much to the community he served; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways name bridge No. 52-7 over Route 2 in New Martinsville the "Richard
'Dick' Snyder Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways provide and
erect signs at either end of the bridge displaying the name
"Richard 'Dick' Snyder Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
the Department of Transportation and the family of the late Richard
Snyder.
